Description

Mørke Makter

“Mørke Makter” is the debut album from Faroese black’n’roll band Necrolepsia.

The style of the record seeks to mix two traditions: the visuals, vocal shrieks, minor chords and blastbeats from black metal, and the groove, hooks and traditional song structure of hard rock, in the style of bands like Khold, Satyricon, Abbath and others.

While the older material was written with a primitive and narrow focus, the newer songs exhibit a variety of influences, such as doom metal, thrash, punk rock, and dark ambient soundscapes, which makes for a mongrel combination.

The lyrics are inspired by traditional texts, local poetry and stories of the living dead. They deal with subjects like necromancy, prophecy, and harsh northern life, all sung in Norwegian. This choice of language is to reflect the band’s northern roots as well as pay tribute to where the style originated.

All of which makes up an album as dark and varied as the islands themselves.
